The Long-Held Vision
For over a year, I have integrated Large Language Models (LLMs such as ChatGPT) into every aspect of my life. I've always been interested in the idea of having an agent that participates in everything I do and acts as my "second memory". I have unfinished pitch decks from over a decade ago tentatively called "My Buddy" in which I outline the concept.
The Language Barrier
This idea has been collecting virtual dust for so long simply because working with language is hard. If you've ever interacted with someone whose primary language is not your own then you became acutely aware that language just isn't words and syntax. The workplace is filled with jargon and TLAs that are all but impenetrable to someone from a different field. We speak in colloquialisms and idioms. We share ideas through analogies. Even if someone has a sufficient command of the language, without shared experiences it is often necessary to explicitly express what would otherwise be left unsaid.
A New Beginning
In the intervening months since I began, this explorer has acquired a wealth of knowledge; some of it concerns technology, but the bulk of it centers on how we humans communicate and assimilate new life-altering technologies. With this newfound knowledge still fresh in the mind, the first step must be taken to bring these thoughts to life. This is that step.(268 tokens)
The "Peak of Inflated Expectations" proves premature for LLMs as real-world applications consistently exceed anticipated capabilities. From transforming software development workflows to enabling unprecedented creative augmentation, these tools demonstrate practical value that transcends the typical hype cycle, suggesting we've only begun to scratch the surface of their potential.9 January 2025
Google's recently released Genie 3 represents a breakthrough in world modeling, but it's actually just one instance of something universal. Every creative and problem-solving domain involves navigating constraint spaces that function as physics. Whether you're writing fiction, debugging code, or composing music, you're doing the same fundamental work as Genie 3: exploring what's possible within a system of constraints.12 August 2025
